The Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia is a scholarly society for people committed to the advancement of higher and tertiary education. It promotes the development of higher education policy, practice and the study of teaching and learning.

 

HERDSA encourages and disseminates research on teaching and learning and higher education development. It also works to build strong academic communities. The current HERDSA Constitution was adopted in 2000.

 

HERDSA works to

  • advance educational policy and practice in the higher education and tertiary sector
  • facilitate and promote the enhancement of teaching and learning
  • encourage and disseminate research on higher education and tertiary teaching, learning, development, research, leadership and policy matters
  • recognise and reward outstanding contributions to higher and tertiary education
  • encourage collaboration and the development of professional communities in higher and tertiary education

Innovative Research Universities

IRU is a network of seven comprehensive universities conducting research of national and international standing and applying collective expert knowledge, capabilities and resources to enhance the outcomes of higher education.

 

The IRU network has national reach, with an institutional presence in every mainland State of Australia and the Northern Territory. The member universities collectively operate in over 35 different locations reflecting the rich diversity of the nation: capital cities; outer-metropolitan areas; regional cities and towns; and, remote locations. Our members also operate campuses and centres in a number of global locations.

Australian Universities Review

The Australian Universities’ Review (AUR, formerly Vestes) is published by the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) to encourage debate and discussion about issues in higher education and its contribution to Australian public life, with an emphasis on those matters of concern to NTEU members. AUR publishes both articles and other contributions, including short commentary and satire. Articles will be assessed by independent referees before publication. Priority is given to contributions which are substantial, lively, original and have a broad appeal. Responses to previously published contributions are encouraged.
